Matkahuolto – Case Film

Client: Matkahuolto

The brief was to bring Matkahuolto's renewed visual identity to life with motion. The film would be used at an internal launch event and shared by staff on their own social media channels. The length, soundtrack and visuals of the film were entirely up to us to decide.

Challenge

We decided that our best approach would be to create a playful case film with music using the assets from Matkahuolto’s new visual identity as animated elements. The film would start with the progression of Matkahuolto’s logos through-out the years and ending in the new and improved version while old-timey music plays in the background. More modern and contemporary music would ensue and the animation would continue with entertaining animations using the new identity.

Approach

My first step was to look up old logos and marks from Matkahuolto’s past. We found some old books and newspaper articles that contained older versions of their identity. Since they were only in print format, I had to vectorize them from scratch for animation. Afterwards I gathered all the new identity assets such as photos, typefaces, colors and editorial compositions. I planned out a rough storyboard to be approved by the client while a composer created a song for the film. Once both were accepted I started to give life to the identity resulting in a minute long film.

The film’s purpose was to be shown at their launch party only but the client was so pleased with the results that they posted it on their social media and ordered an english translated version to be used in their future marketing campaigns.
