Plan International Finland is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children's rights and equality for girls.
The organization’s new donation “product”, to be sold in Finland, Girl Supporter (Tyttösponssi), is designed to support girls and young women in multiple countries to overcome the various obstacles they face.
Plan International Finland launched a new monthly donation product in Finland. Girl Supporter (Tyttösponssi) collects funds to support girls and young women in multiple countries to overcome the various obstacles they face. Even though injustices like child marriages and teen pregnancies are an unfortunate reality for some, being a victim isn't what defines these girls and young women.
Plan International needed an empowering invitation to inspire people to want to be part of the Girl Supporters.
Challenge
It has been proven that pity advertising does not work anymore. People tend to scroll past adverts that make them feel uncomfortable.
Therefore, we didn't want our supporters to fall into a white saviour complex. Even though injustices like child marriages and teen pregnancies are an unfortunate reality, being a victim isn't what defines these girls and young women.
Therefore, if you become a Girl Supporter, you are not a saviour but an ally.
Insight
From the moment they are born, girls face many obstacles on their path to adulthood. To help people dig into the complexity and size of the battles we aim to conquer, we needed to tell their stories in a powerful way.
We created a manifesto animation, which does not single out any specific race or a minority. Throughout the animation we used symbols to talk about the girls in need. Everything was executed with a empowering tonality and light storytelling that would inspire people to become a Girl Sponsor.
